The missed-call playbook
Missed-call text-back for beauty shops.
Reviewed
Missed-call text-back sends a short message after an unanswered call so the person can book or leave a request while you finish the client in the chair. Beauty shops usually start with a booking-link text. StillBooked Square Write-Back writes bookings back to your Square calendar on Plus or Premium. That Square plan alone does not enable it.
What missed-call text-back is
When a call rings out or goes to voicemail during a service, after hours, or while you are with a client, a text-back is an automatic first reply. It can include your booking link, ask what service they want, and tell them when someone will follow up.
It is not a promise that every caller becomes a booking. Wrong numbers, existing clients changing a time, sales calls, and full calendars still show up in the log. Treat the text as the start of a process you can check, not as recovered revenue.
Why beauty shops look for it
Hair, nails, barber, spa, and massage work often keeps both hands busy. A caller who needs a gel fill, a fade, or a massage slot may hang up rather than leave a voicemail. Owners usually want a reply that does not pull them off the client in the chair.
Compare that need with generic phone tools built for home-service trades. Those pages often describe job leads and dispatch. A salon answer should talk about open appointment slots, staff skills, consultation services, and the calendar you already use.
Booking-link text versus calendar write-back
A booking-link text points the caller to the URL you already share for Square, Booksy, Vagaro, GlossGenius, or another booker. The caller finishes the booking themselves. Sending the link does not prove they opened it or that an appointment was created.
Square only lets an app book into your calendar as your shop if you're on Appointments Plus or Premium. On Free, Square lets some apps book as the client instead. That's a different kind of access, and it doesn't make a Free shop a fit for StillBooked Square Write-Back.
StillBooked Text-Back is $99 a month. Square Write-Back is $199 a month and writes into the shop's own Square calendar for shops on Appointments Plus or Premium. Upgrading Square does not turn on StillBooked write-back. On a diagnosis call, ask which path matches your plan and your proof standard.
Keep the current client first
Write the mid-service and after-hours wording before the phone rings. Say when you will follow up, and keep that time. Offer the booking link for services that do not need a consultation, and route color corrections, first visits, or treatment questions to an owner reply.
Draft examples you can adapt: during a service, thank them, name the shop, share the booking link, and give a follow-up window you can keep. After hours, say when you reopen. Keep health details and payment-card details out of the message.
Test the flow with your own phone. Confirm the wording, the link destination, the owner handoff, and what happens when the requested slot is full.
Check fit before you buy a tool
Bring one week of your call pattern to a short diagnosis: how many unanswered booking questions, when they arrive, which services and staff had open slots, and which calendar you use. That record decides whether a booking-link text-back is enough or whether Square Write-Back is worth evaluating.
Do not score a tool by how much it claims to staff the phone for you. Score it by whether callers get a clear next step, whether appointments you care about land in the right calendar, and whether you can verify both.
